|Description||Useful as an index of GFR, especially in patients where serum creatinine may be misleading (e.g., very obese, elderly, and malnourished patients), for assessing renal function in patients suspected of having kidney disease, and for monitoring treatment response in patients with kidney disease|
|Specimen||Draw blood in a plain, red-top or serum gel tube. Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum: 0.5 mL) of serum refrigerated in a screw-capped, plastic vial.|
|Reference Values||> or =23 years: 0.57-1.29 mg/L
Reference values have not been established for patients that are <23 years of age.
