|Methodology||Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)|
|Description||Useful for the detection of serum antibodies (IgM and IgG) to Borrelia burgdorferi.
If screening test is positive or equivocal, the test will automatically be referred for "Lyme Disease Antibody, Confirmation, Serum" testing at an additional charge.
|Specimen||Draw blood in either a plain, red-top or serum gel tube. Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum 0.5 mL) of serum refrigerated. If specimen will not arrive within 2 days of draw, send specimen FROZEN in plastic vial on dry ice.|
|Reference Values||Negative: Antibody to B. burgdorferi not detected. If symptomology is suggestive of Lyme disease, redraw in 2 - 4 weeks and retest.
Equivocal: Antibody to B. burgdorferi detected at equivocal (borderline) level. Suggest retesting in 2 - 4 weeks.
Positive: Antibody to B. burgdorferi detected.
