Methodology Automated Turbidimetric Immunoassay 
Description Useful for evaluation of risk for atherosclerotic disease and for detection of Tangier's disease (individuals with Tangier's have <1% the normal amount of HDL and thus Apo A-1). 
Specimen Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube, spin down within 4 hours of collection and send 1.0 mL (minimum: 0.5 mL) of EDTA plasma refrigerated in a screw-capped, plastic vial. If specimen pickup is greater than 72hrs. then specimen must be frozen.
