Methodology Colorimetric, Kinetic 
Description Useful for detection of metachromatic leukodystrophy and as a secondary specimen for metachromatic leukodystrophy. The preferred initial specimen in leukocytes. 
Specimen SPECIMEN MUST BE RECEIVED 1 DAY PRIOR TO ASSAY DAY FOR PROCESSING.

10 mL (minimum: 5.0 mL) from a 24-hour urine collection container. No preservative. See "Urine Preservatives" for multiple collections. Refrigerate specimen during collection. Send specimen refrigerated in a 13-mL urine tube.

NOTE:
1. 24-HOUR VOLUME IS REQUIRED ON REQUEST FORM FOR PROCESSING.
2. Follow "Urine Collection" instructions.

NOTE: Results from this assay may not reflect carrier status because of individual variation of arylsulfatase A enzyme levels.
