|Test Code||GAST / GAST-M|
|Methodology||Automated Chemiluminescent Immunometric Assay|
|Description||Useful for diagnosis of gastrinoma and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome|
|Specimen||Draw blood in either a plain, red-top tube or serum gel tube from a fasting patient (8 hours). Spin down and send 1.0 mL (minimum: 0.5 mL) of serum refrigerator in a plastic vial. Must be received within 24 hours, if not, send frozen.
|Reference Values||<= 100 pg/mL
There is no evidence that fasting serum gastrin levels differ between adults and children. Although 8-hour fasts are difficult or impossible to enforce in small children, serum gastrin levels after shorter fasting periods (3-8 hours) may be 50-60% higher than the 8-hour fasting value.
|Analytic Time||2 Days|
