Test GALACTOKINASE, BLOOD 
Methodology Radioisotopic 
Description Useful for diagnosis of the second most common cause of galactosemia (ie, galactokinase deficiency) 
Specimen SPECIMEN MUST ARRIVE WITHIN 48 HOURS OF DRAW.

Draw blood in a green-top (sodium heparin) tube(s) from a
fasting patient (4 hour preferred, nonfasting acceptable), and
send 5 mL (minimum 1mL) of sodium heparin whole blood refrigerated.
SPECIMEN CANNOT BE FROZEN.

NOTE: Draw date is required on the request form for processing. 

Reference Values < 2 years: 20.1 - 79.8 mU/g of hemoglobin
>= 2 years: 12.1 - 39.7 mU/g of hemoglobin (literature values)
