CALCIUM EXCRETION, 2-HOUR URINE

Test Code 9331M
Test CALCIUM EXCRETION, 2-HOUR URINE
Methodology Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) / Atomic Emission Spectroscopy. Includes creatinine determination (Rate Jaffe).
Description Useful for helping to differentiate absorptive from nonabsorptive causes of hypercalciuria.
Specimen 5.0 mL (minimum 2.0 mL) from a 2-hour urine collection. Add 2.0 mL of 6N HCI as a preservative at start of collection. Instructions for a 2-hour urine collection are as follows:

1. No food or drink after 6 p.m. the evening before the test (except as indicated by physician).

7. Send specimen FROZEN in a screw-capped plastic vial.
NOTE:
1. 2-HOUR VOLUME IS REQUIRED ON REQUEST FORM FOR PROCESSING.

Reference Values Absorptive hypercalciuria: < 20 mg calcium / 2-hour specimen or a creatinine ratio of < 0.15
Nonabsorptive hypercalciuria: > 30 mg calcium / 2-hour specimen or a calcium / creatinine ratio of > 0.15
Indeterminate: 20 - 30 mg calcium / 2-hour specimen
